Dorset Unsigned Music Awards
The Dorset Unsigned Music Awards (DUMA) is a competition to find the best unsigned live act in Dorset. The competition showcases Dorset live acts, giving them radio airplay, internet airplay, printed media coverage, a 3-4 week tour of Dorset venues, and ultimately for the winner, a 45 minute set at Camp Bestival, a 45 minute set at The Larmer Tree Festival, a 45 minute set at Endorset In Dorset, recording time and many more prizes to be confirmed - making it a very exciting live music expose for musicians to be a part of.
As well as Camp Bestival forming part of the winning prize, Rob da Bank has also agreed to help judge the DUMA final: "I am delighted to confirm that Camp Bestival will be part of the winning prize for the 2009 Dorset Unsigned Music Awards. Bestival (on the Isle of Wight) has been very proactive in allowing local unsigned acts onto the big stage, and a major part of Camp Bestival is to support the new local music scene in Dorset. I spend my life looking for new music for my BBC Radio 1 show, so this will also be an enjoyable process for me personally."
It is free and easy to sign up for the competition. All you have to do is become friends with their myspace page - www.myspace.com/dorsetunsigned - and make sure you have music on your own myspace profile. Entry will continue through until the end of January, where they will be in touch with 20 chosen acts from their judges.
There will be live quarter final events through February (venues to be announced) with online voting from the public to decide on the artists who will go through to the semi finals.
Throughout March they will be holding the 2 semi finals where 10 acts will compete for the chance to play at the final at the end of April. This will be judged by their panel of judges (including Rob da Bank).
